The basics
What are content restrictions?
A way to control exactly what plays on a specific device. Switch them on and everything above your chosen age rating disappears from the app — browsing, search, recommendations, Continue Watching. Not locked behind a gate. Gone.
Why “content restrictions” and not “parental controls”?
Because it’s not just for parents. Teachers, older siblings, caregivers — anyone responsible for a younger viewer can use it. The feature works for whoever needs it.
How do I set it up?
Sign in, then head to Account → Manage account → Content restriction. Choose a maximum age category, create a four-digit passcode, and save. Restrictions take effect immediately on that device. You must select a category before saving — there’s no default.
What age categories can I choose from?
Five: Kids, Older Kids, Teens, Young Adults, and Adults. The specific ratings inside each category depend on where you are. “Teens” in Brazil covers content rated 12 and 14. In Germany it maps to FSK 12. In the US, PG-13 and TV-14. Travel to a new country and the category stays — the ratings underneath it adjust automatically.
Do I need to be signed in?
Yes. Content restrictions are only available to signed-in users.
The passcode
How does the passcode work?
Four digits that protect the restriction settings. Anyone wanting to change or disable them has to enter the passcode first. The passcode is tied to your account, so it’s the same on every device you’re signed in to. The restriction level itself is device-specific.
How do I change my passcode?
Go to Content restriction settings, enter your current passcode, then set a new one.
I forgot my passcode.
Tap “Forgot your passcode?” on the entry screen. You’ll need to re-authenticate with your login credentials — on phones and tablets this opens a web view; on TV devices (Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku) you’ll scan a QR code with your phone instead. Once verified, set a new passcode straight away. Your restriction settings stay intact — only the code resets.
What gets filtered
What content is filtered when restrictions are on?
Everything above the selected rating is removed from the app entirely. That covers browsing, search results, recommendations, and Continue Watching. Unrated content is treated as the highest age rating and always filtered out — it never slips through.
What happens to my Continue Watching list?
Anything that now exceeds the restriction level disappears from view. Your progress is saved — it just doesn’t show. Adjust the restriction level to allow that content again and everything comes back exactly where you left it.
Across devices
Do I need to set this up on every device?
Yes — and that’s the point. Different restriction levels on different devices means stricter settings on the living-room TV, something else on a personal tablet. The passcode is shared across all devices. The restriction levels are independent.
I signed into a new device. Do my settings carry over?
The passcode does. The restriction level doesn’t — it needs to be set up on the new device.
What if I delete and reinstall the app?
The passcode stays on your account. The restriction level resets and needs to be configured again.
I turned restrictions off and then back on. Do I need to reselect my age category?
If you toggle off and back on in the same session, your previous selection is restored automatically. If the app was closed or restarted while restrictions were off, you’ll need to select a category again.
Travelling
I’m travelling to a different country. Will my settings change?
The category stays put. What changes is which ratings it covers. Set “Teens” in the US and travel to Brazil — the app maps “Teens” to the Brazilian equivalent automatically. A notification appears when this happens. No action needed.
Note: some countries do not have an equivalent for every category. For example, Austria has no “Adults” tier. If you travel there with “Adults” selected, the app remaps to the closest available category.
Watching without signing in
Why do I need to sign in to watch certain content in e.g. Austria or Brazil?
Local regulations in both countries require age verification above a certain threshold. Signing in confirms that requirement is met. In Austria, content rated 6 and above requires a sign-in. In Brazil, it’s content rated 10 and above. This applies whether or not you have content restrictions enabled.
Troubleshooting
I can’t find content restrictions in my settings.
Content restrictions require a signed-in account. If you’re signed in and still don’t see the option, make sure your app is updated to the latest version. The feature is available globally across Red Bull TV, ServusTV On, and RallyTV.
My restriction level looks different from what I set.
If you’ve travelled since configuring your settings, the ratings may have remapped to local equivalents. Check the current setup under Content restriction settings — your category is unchanged, but the ratings it covers may differ in your current location.
I switched accounts on this device and the old restrictions are still active.
This is a known issue. After switching accounts, go to Content restriction settings and reconfigure for the new account.
I tapped a link or notification and the content seems blocked.
If a deep link or push notification points to content above your restriction level, the app may not display it correctly yet. Adjust your restriction settings if you need to access that content, or disable restrictions temporarily.
